We provide a comprehensive range of treatment options for heavy periods from hormonal regulation to hysterectomy
The LNG IUS is a small T-shaped plastic device that contains the hormone levonorgestrel (like the natural hormone progesterone). The doctor will insert it into your uterus (womb). The LNG-IUS slowly releases the hormone for a number of years. It usually makes the menstrual periods much lighter and less painful so it is a very effective treatment for women with heavy or painful periods. The LNG IUS is also a reliable reversible contraceptive option.
Your periods can be treated with some hormonal and non-hormonal medications depending on your condition and wishes
Uterine Endometrial ablation treatment is a surgical procedure for treatment of heavy periods. A small wand (probe) is passed via the vagina and neck of the womb (cervix) into the cavity of the womb (uterus) where it is opened. The machine is activated and radiofrequency energy destroys the the lining of the uterus (endometrium) with the aim that the periods become very much lighter or stop completely. The procedure is minor and the hospital stay and recovery time short.
As endometrial ablation does not affect the ovaries the normal monthly hormonal cycle will continue until the natural menopause (usually at about 50 years of age).
Hysteroscopic surgery means operating in the cavity of your womb by passing a telescope in to the womb through the vagina
Hysterectomy means removal of your womb
This can be done either by key hole, vaginally or through your tummy depending on your condition
Myomectomy means removal of the fibroid , leaving your womb behind
Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy is an operation to remove your uterus (womb) by keyhole surgery (minimal access surgery). In addition you may require removal of one or both or your ovaries and fallopian tubes (salpingo-oophorectomy).
Vaginal Hysterectomy means removal of your uterus via your vagina. Your cervix is also removed.
Abdominal hysterectomy means removal of your uterus (womb) through an abdominal incision. If your cervix is removed it is called a ‘total hysterectomy’. If your cervix is not removed it is called a ‘subtotal hysterectomy’. One or both ovaries may also be removed at the operation. An abdominal operation is usually carried out through a bikini line incision, but if your uterus is very large a vertical incision in the lower abdomen is required
